Since the university isn’t very big, I quickly figured out which lecturers I especially enjoy taking classes with. This closeness and the friendly, familiar atmosphere are the biggest advantages of the program for me. You take away more from each course, it’s easier to connect with people, and you really feel seen.
Rue (M.A. Culture – Language – Media)
I still remember the sense of wonder during the intercultural exchange block seminar. In just three days, people from Western countries and the Global South became friends and unexpectedly close. Now, as a practitioner in clean energy and sustainable procurement, I’m turning my knowledge and experience into real impact and outreach.

There are two institutions of higher education in Flensburg, located on a shared campus: Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) and Flensburg University of Applied Sciences (FUAS, in German: Hochschule Flensburg, HS).
At EUF, you can study in the fields of education, European studies, business, culture, or environment and sustainability. With the degree programs we offer, you can become a teacher, go into management, work in the field of renewable energies, or immerse yourself in cultural life. But these are just a few examples. Studying at EUF opens up countless opportunities for you. Check out our full range of courses at the top of this page.
At Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, with which we share the campus, the focus is on media and technology. Feel free to visit their website if you are interested in their range of courses.
EUF has a rating of 4 out of 5 stars on Studycheck. 93 percent of students would recommend EUF to others. It’s best to check the ratings for individual degree programs, because an overall average can only provide a general overview.
There are no tuition fees at EUF (except for a one-off registration fee of €60). However, you must pay a semester fee each semester (i.e., every six months) (current prices can be found on our organizing your studies page). This includes a Germany-wide ticket for public transport. Students must have health insurance. In addition, you will probably need a laptop, and will have to purchase a few textbooks.
Living in Flensburg is cheaper than in many larger cities in Germany. It is best to plan for your studies with a monthly budget of around 850 euros including accommodation. In the Studentenwerk’s cafeteria and café lounge on campus, you can get an inexpensive breakfast, lunch, or small snack between meals from Monday to Friday. You can find affordable accommodation in shared apartments (WGs) and the Studentenwerk dormitories, which are located directly on campus. Want to know more? Take a look at our page on living costs.
Of course! Take a look at our financing page. We’ve put together lots of helpful tips for you there, including information about scholarships.
Yes, thanks to comparatively low rents and living costs, as well as its two institutions of higher education (EUF and FUAS), Flensburg is an attractive student city – not too big, with a maritime flair, a pretty, old part of town, and lots of bars and pubs.
As an international student, please contact Patrick Will at the International Center. He is responsible for FIT@EUF, a project that supports the integration of international talent into EUF and the job market in Germany. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your studies. You can find additional contacts on the International Center’s contact page.
The admission requirements depend on the respective degree program. In principle, however, all students at EUF must have a high school diploma (allgemeine Hochschulreife / Abitur). Depending on your planned field of study, a subject-specific university entrance qualification (fachgebundene Hochschulreife) may also be sufficient.
In exceptional cases, you can also study at EUF without a high school diploma – this applies, for example, if you have already acquired sufficient knowledge in your profession. Read more about studying without a high school diploma here.
The admission requirements for specific degree programs can be found on the specific degree program’s homepage. Simply click through our range of degree programs above and see if you need to provide proof of language skills or take a test, for example.
Your studies begin with an introductory week, during which you will attend information events and get to know other new students. You will then start your chosen degree program. We have compiled some interesting information for first-year students on our first semester students page. Take a look!
Of course! Take a look at our semester schedule, dates and deadlines page. The information there is constantly updated.
Yes, if you need assistance in choosing a degree program or are experiencing difficulties with your studies, our Student Guidance and Counseling Service will be happy to assist you. Our Student Services can answer any questions you may have regarding applications, admission and enrollment, exams and transcripts, internships, and other formalities.
To study at EUF, you have to go through four steps: You apply online and submit important documents, such as your high school diploma. If you are admitted (there are restrictions for some degree programs), you will receive a letter of admission. Yay! Now you can accept your place at the university and officially enroll. Take a look at the steps in detail on our help page. But it’s even better to check the page for the degree program you’re interested in – what you need to do varies slightly from program to program.
The usual application period at EUF is from May 15 to July 15, but there are differences between degree programs, especially if you’re coming from abroad. Check the website for the degree program you are interested in so you don’t miss the deadline!
