Learn how social change happens.

Take a look behind the scenes of social change – bilingual, practical, and enriched with international experience

Digitalization, social division, climate change, migration – societies are transforming faster than ever. In the B.A. Social Sciences: Social and Political Change at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF), you’ll discover why.

As the only bachelor’s program of its kind in Germany, it combines sociology – the study of social action and coexistence – with political science. Both approaches are needed to truly understand social structures and people’s thinking and behavior.

From day one, you’ll be involved in research: first theoretically, then practically. By the end of your studies, you’ll be able to describe and evaluate social and political developments with ease.

Because global challenges require global skills, the program also focuses on languages and intercultural exchange. Courses are taught in both German and English, and you can optionally choose an additional language. You’ll also go abroad for a semester – which can include an internship if you’d like.

Look forward to an international environment that encourages critical and innovative thinking, and get ready to shape the future as a true game changer.

This is what your studies will look like – semester by semester

You’ll learn how to think analytically, write academically, work in a team, and speak in public. This will give you the perfect foundation for your studies in social and political science – and you’ll learn how studying actually works.

You’ll explore research designs and international viewpoints on social and political issues. At the same time, you’ll boost your language skills and strengthen your communication skills.

After laying the foundation in the first year, you can now specialize on the topics that particularly interest you. This happens in two ways:

Your research project: In a team, you’ll learn how to conduct social science research. In the process, you’ll also grow your problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Your seminars: You choose the areas you want to explore more deeply:

  • Democracy & social engagement: Understanding political participation and activism
  • Migration & integration: Analyzing global migration trends and policies
  • Social inequality & the welfare state: Exploring social policy as a tool for reducing inequality
  • Society & nature: Studying sustainability and climate policy

You continue with your elective modules from the previous semester and strengthen your skills in interdisciplinary thinking and academic research.

Embark on an adventure. In the fifth semester, it’s time for a mandatory semester abroad. You can spend it at one of our partner universities worldwide.

What you’ll learn: adaptability, intercultural competence, and global perspectives on everything you’ve learned so far – plus new insights into the social and political change of societies.

In your final semester, the focus is on your career goals. You can choose one of two paths:

  • Organize a public academic event
  • Complete an eight-week internship

You’ll also write your bachelor’s thesis and defend it in a colloquium – a short oral exam where you discuss your research. You can choose the topic of the research for your thesis yourself.

Before you embark on your professional future, you’ll strengthen your research and project-management skills once again and establish important contacts.

Semester Abroad: Global Perspectives for Global Skills

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure – in your fifth semester, you’ll be heading abroad.

The semester abroad is an integral part of your studies, giving you the chance to study at one of our partner universities worldwide and, if you wish, complete a professional internship.

Not only will you expand your academic knowledge, but you’ll also strengthen key skills such as adaptability, intercultural understanding, and the ability to look beyond national borders. You’ll experience first-hand how social and political changes shape societies, and gain experience that will enrich you both personally and academically.

Our International Center will support you every step of the way, and your semester abroad will be funded through the Erasmus+ program.
