More than the average master’s degree in international management

With the M.A. in International Management Studies – BWL at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF), you will acquire in-depth knowledge of economics and develop international management skills.

You will learn to work successfully in teams and in leadership roles and to conduct research. Unlike other international management programs, ours allows you to improve your foreign language and intercultural skills.

Optionally, you can complete a double degree from EUF and Syddansk Universitet (SDU) in Sønderborg, Denmark. There are weekly events at both locations and a handy shuttle service.

To tailor your studies to your interests, you can choose one of four specializations:

  • Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management
  • Strategy & Organization
  • Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management
  • Marketing & Media Management

However, you can also earn credits in other areas of specialization to create your own individual profile.

We place great emphasis on practical relevance in each area of specialization. Through projects, internships, guest lectures, and collaboration with companies, you will apply theoretical knowledge and prepare yourself optimally for your professional career.

This is what your studies will look like – semester by semester

Let’s not beat around the bush – right at the start, you’ll start by choosing introductory courses from the areas of focus that interest you (Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management, Strategy & Organization, Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management, or Marketing & Media Management).

In addition, you will refresh your research skills, gain interdisciplinary and interpersonal skills, strengthen your ability to deal with international and intercultural situations, and improve your language skills in English, Spanish, or Danish.

In the second semester, you will deepen what you started in the first semester. Delve even deeper into the areas of knowledge that interest you. Strengthen your intercultural skills and language abilities.

In addition, you will choose between courses on research methods and courses on interdisciplinary and interpersonal skills in the area of key competencies.

In the third semester, you can focus entirely on your chosen areas of specialization.

In addition, you will take a course in the area of key competencies: research competence, management and personal competence, or intercultural competence.

If you would like to study abroad for a semester, this is the right time to do so.

The fourth semester is dedicated to writing your master’s thesis. In the master’s colloquial, you will exchange ideas with others about your research question, your sources, and your methodological approach. You will conclude your thesis with an oral defense.

The double degree: Studying across borders

  • The International Management Studies degree program is offered in cooperation with Syddansk Universitet (SDU) in Sønderborg, Denmark.
  • If you wish, you can obtain the Danish Cand. merc. int. (CMI) degree in addition to your German M.A. degree. The Candidatus mercaturae international degree is an international business degree, also known as M.Sc. in Business, Language and Culture.
  • You will have classes at EUF on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and at SDU on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • The courses at SDU are taught in English. You do not need to know Danish.
  • A shuttle bus will take you to and from Flensburg for a fee of €75 per person per semester, timed to coincide with the courses.
  • For non-EU citizens, the courses at SDU are subject to a fee.
  • You first apply to only one of the two universities (EUF or SDU) for a place in their master’s program – if possible, at SDU first. Please note there are different application deadlines. In order to obtain the double degree, you must meet the admission requirements for both master’s programs and receive acceptance from both universities.
  • You can find out more about the double degree on our homepage.

Semester abroad: Discover the world!

In the third semester of the International Management Studies program, you have the option to spend a semester abroad. We highly recommend it: you’ll get to know new cultures, improve your language skills, make international connections, and create memories you’ll never forget.

Of course, you won’t have to handle the organization on your own: the EUF International Center will support you with the planning, and funding is provided through the Erasmus program. You’ll have access to around 50 partner universities worldwide. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
