European Studies (EUS) – Master of Arts (M.A.)

You will complete introductory courses in European law, politics, and history and learn more about European integration. You will also train your academic writing and critical thinking skills.

Look forward to exciting courses on social and economic life in Europe in the fields of politics, economics, law, and philosophy. You will also gain practical skills in research design and methods.

Specialize in EU law and politics or social challenges in Europe. This will enable you to better understand and discuss current issues. You will work in small teams and further strengthen your research skills.

Your master’s program is coming to an end. You will conduct research, write your master’s thesis, and complete a colloquium.

The M.A. EUS program lasts 2 years (= 4 semesters).

The M.A. EUS program begins each year in the fall semester.

No, the semester abroad during the M.A. EUS is optional. If you decide to do it, you can either do it worldwide as part of the Erasmus+ program, or at Universita degli Studi di Catania (Italy) or the University of Limerick (Ireland) and in doing so earn a double degree.

The program is open to all applicants. You just need to have completed a relevant bachelor’s degree and be able to speak English at C1 level. You can find the exact application requirements on the application page of the program.

You must be able to demonstrate adequate English language skills. The exact language requirements can be found on the application page of the program. Since the program is taught entirely in English, you do not need any knowledge of German.

Please contact the International Center for information about available scholarships. Unfortunately, the EUF itself does not offer scholarships – funding usually comes from external sources. If you decide to pursue a double degree at the University of Limerick (Ireland), you may be eligible for a Limerick Mobility Scholarship, which covers tuition fees at the University of Limerick. The EUS program opens up a wide range of career opportunities. You can work in consulting, management, or research. For example, you could work for national and international bodies dealing with EU affairs, or you could work for NGOs or private companies. A career in radio and broadcasting is also an option. During your studies, we support you with career events, contacts with institutions and alumni, as well as internships and study trips, so that you can build up a professional network early on.

EUF is a small, friendly university in northern Germany with a green campus and many international students. There are free language courses, a sports center, a swimming pool, and various student organizations (political, environmental, intercultural, religious, etc.). In the evenings, there are often themed events, such as movie and game nights, theater performances, or barbecues. You can reach several beaches by bus, as Flensburg is located on the Flensburg Firth. The Baltic Sea, the North Sea, and Denmark are not far away. Hamburg is only two hours away by train.
