Challenging the Arbitrary Notions of Race-Making: Whiteness and Indigeneity in Sámi Life Narratives
This research challenges the arbitrary notions of race-making through the lens of Sámi life narratives in correspondence between Sápmi and Turtle Island. Focused on the intersection where indigeneity and whiteness meet, the primary literature consists of English language Sámi texts, translated or original, that confront markers of identity. Its aim is to point out the paradox and deceptions of racialized conceptualizations within the colonial paradigm, dissected through Indigenous Studies methodologies, and argued from a clear understanding of positionality.
