The project focuses on strengthening an inclusive understanding of belonging in the German-Danish border region. It promotes intercultural and democratic skills among students and teachers by examining and reflecting on ideas of belonging in school contexts. The BiZu project relies on cross-border workshops, scientific analyses and practice-oriented materials to sustainably anchor the topic in educational institutions.

Key facts
Description
The project analyses notions of belonging in various regional school types in the border region of Sønderjylland-Schleswig. Interviews with pupils, teachers and school administrators, as well as classroom observations, are used to assess the status quo, which is then evaluated using a SWOT analysis. In two rounds of workshops with 8th and 9th grade classes from majority and minority schools, intercultural and democratic skills are strengthened and new perspectives on belonging are developed together.
The outcomes will be:
bilingual handouts for teachers with didactic material,
short videos for use in class,
scientific publications,
public presentations of the results.
The aim of the project is to promote an open and inclusive understanding of belonging in the school context of the border region. Intercultural and democratic skills are strengthened as a central foundation for breaking down mechanisms of exclusion and sustainably supporting exchange between majority and minority schools. The findings are incorporated into the development of practical materials, scientific articles and public formats, thus contributing to the long-term strengthening of a common educational space.
