This page provides an overview of EUF internal and external funding opportunities.

International teaching and research fellowships

European University Alliance EMERGE senior researchers at EUF
  • Third-places research fellowships at EMERGE partner institutions

  • Research-based third-places internships at EMERGE partner institutions
DAAD research grants (PhD) PhD students
  • Funding period: 1 to 12 months
  • Amount of funding: monthly grant amount + travel allowance + additional funds
  • Applicants can apply twice (maximum 18 months)
DAAD research grants (postdoc) Postdocs
  • Funding period: 3 to 6 months
  • Amount of funding: monthly grant amount + travel allowance + additional funds
Feodor Lynen research fellowship (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) Postdocs (PhD graduation no more than 4 years ago) and experienced researchers (PhD graduation no more that 12 years ago) 
  • Funding period: Postdocs 6 to 4 months, experienced researchers 6 to 18 months (German nationality only)
  • AMount of funding: variable, depending on destination country and living situation, travel expenses, family allowance (if applicable)
  • Other: the host institutions need to be part of the Humboldt network

Academics receiving research funding from third-party funding providers are often elligible for additional conference funding provided by that institution.

  • Amount of funding: Up to EUR 2,000, max. 50% of the total costs. Includes staff costs, travel and accommodation costs for speakers and discussion leaders/moderators, hospitality costs (within the framework of the hospitality guidelines), printing/PR costs, room costs (if applicable).

  • Funding for international conferences, network meetings, summer schools, etc. where at least 1/3 of the participants come from abroad
ICES (EUF) all EUF researchers in the field of European Studies
  • International conferences in the field of European Studies
  • Support with the application process (third-party funding), 
  • Support with the organization and hosting of the event
ZEBUSS (EUF)    
Erasmus+  all EUF lecturers
  • funding for Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)
  • EUR 4,000 to 8,000 for organizing the program (z.B. staff costs, material costs, activities, catering)

International training courses & study trips

Erasmus+ BIP (Blended Intensive Program)
  • Collaborate with at least 2 partner universities
  • On-site phase: 5-30 days + virtual phase
  • Companions allowed; see Erasmus+ for teaching professionals
  • Students can receive EUR 79 /day/person (1-14 days) + possible extra funding/travel allowance
EUF Foundation
  • Study trip funding for EUF degree programs
  • Maximum funding amount: EUR 400 to 600
