Applying to the M. Eng. Program in Sustainable Energy - Transition

All applications received on time and in the correct form will be included in the selection process.

How the selection process works:

After certain preliminary quotas have been determined, the university initially will allocate 20% of the available study places according to the identified  waiting time. The waiting time calculation begins from the date when the B.A. or a recognized equivalent course of study was completed. The allocation of the remaining study places takes place within the scope of the university selection procedure. Further details are specified in § 5 para. 3 of the university selection statutes (Hochschulauswahlsatzung).

Provisional admission

If you have not yet provided proof of a qualifying college degree by the application deadline, you will receive provisional admission [41005]. For admission to a degree program, you must provide proof of the successful completion of e.g. a BA degree by a specified date. This also applies to the proof of any required language certificates.

Notification of admission

Admission notifications are sent by email irregularly every three to four weeks during the application period. The last notifications are usually sent about two weeks after the application deadline has passed.

Spring semester entry (all program semesters):

The application to the Europa-Universität Flensburg takes place in two steps:

1. the online application process and
2. uploading of all required application documents.

A parallel application/registration with the Foundation for University Admissions (DoSV) is not necessary.

In the online application, you must enter all the required data for your chosen degree program. At the end of the online application, you must upload all required documents. You will find a list of the documents required for the application in the application information sheet for your degree program. The documents must be uploaded to the portal no later than the last day of the application period (application deadline).

Once your documents have been received, they will be reviewed. You must then verify in the application portal whether the application is complete or whether any documents are missing. You will receive a notification in the portal and, if you have activated the function, an e-mail informing you that your application status has changed. Any missing documents listed in the application portal must be submitted no later than the application deadline. It is NOT possible to submit documents after the application deadline.

If you have made a mistake in the online application, you can make changes until you have submitted the application form. If you make a mistake after submitting your application, e.g. an incorrect subject combination, you must submit a new application. You will then receive a new application number.

It is important to note that you may only apply for one admission-restricted degree program (or one admission-restricted combination of subjects). If several applications are received for degree programs with restricted admission, only the last application processed by the Admissions Office will be considered in the selection process.
Please note: Online applications submitted before the official application start date cannot be considered. This also applies if application documents are received after the application deadline. Applicants are solely responsible for the timely submission of their application documents.

How the online application works

You may only apply for one restricted-admission degree program (or a combined restricted-admission degree program). If you apply for several applications for admission-restricted programs, during the selection process the university will only consider your most recent application processed by the admissions office.

Please note: Online applications submitted before the official application start date cannot be considered. This also applies for applications received after the application deadline. You are entirely responsible for ensuring that the university receives your application by the deadline.

Please note:

To apply for admission to the master’s program, you need not have fully and successfully completed your bachelor’s degree studies or submit proof that you hold the requisite B.A. degree by the application deadline.

You may also apply you expect to have successfully completed your studies and obtained the B.A. in the semester when you submit your application. In this case, only your required application documents and the legal nature (contents) of the admission notice will differ from those of other applicants.

If you can already prove with the application documents that you have successfully completed your B.A. studies and have met all formal admission requirements, you will receive a legally binding admission notice.

If you are not yet able to provide proof that you hold the B.A. degree, for example because you have not yet received grades for all of your exams, but you have met all formal admission requirements, you will be conditionally admitted into the program and will receive a provisional admission notice.

If you are already enrolled in a master’s program in sustainable energy and would like to complete your master’s studies at Europa-Universität Flensburg, you can apply for admission to an advanced semester.

Prerequisites

As a prerequisite for admission to an advanced semester, the receiving institute at Europa-Universität Flensburg (Admissions Committee) must have reviewed and formally recognized the validity of any examinations you have already taken elsewhere. They must also confirm that you place into an advanced semester.

Advanced-semester applicants must submit a separate application for admission to an advanced semester (including all required documents) in addition to the normal application materials.

For application purposes, you only need to show that you have been placed into an advanced semester. This is just a matter of sending a quick "two-line" note via email or mail.

Overview of available study places (in German)

All applicants to a degree program at EUF must complete the online application procedure.

The following foreign applicants can apply under the same terms as German applicants:

• All foreign applicants or stateless persons who have acquired a German higher education entrance qualification, or who have already completed a degree program in Germany that entitles them to take up the desired degree program.
• Citizens of a member state of the European Union (EU)
• Citizens of signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA) that are not members of the EU (i.e. Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway)
• Foreign applicants with family members who are citizens of a member state of the EU or of a state party to the EEA Agreement

International applicants who do not have a German-language university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur) must present proof of sufficient German language skills. You can find an overview of recognized certificates under "Additional qualifications."  

If you cannot provide proof that you hold such a German-language university entrance qualification, you will need to provide evidence that you possess sufficient German language skills.

Application requirements for the Master of Engineering / Sustainable Energy - Engineering are as follows.

Applicants must have the following:

• A degree from a seven-semester bachelor's degree program in engineering or industrial engineering related to energy topics with at least 210 CPs
• Proof that the applicant has good to very good English language skills by achievements in the general university entrance qualification or by recognized international tests

Applicants with less than 210 CPs can gain admission to the degree program on the condition that they complete certain courses, to be set during the admission process. The subjects/courses will be determined by an examination commission appointed by the chair of the Examination Committee for the Sustainable Energy degree program. In the sense of the examination regulations, these courses count as preliminary examinations.

Applicants who do not have a German university entrance qualification and did not earn a German-taught bachelor's degree at a German university must also submit proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language.

In accordance with the study qualification statutes of Europa-Universität Flensburg, C1-level language certificates at level C1 are required. The following certificates are recognized:

1. The "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (DSH) with an overall result of DSH-2, if all partial examinations have been passed resulting in a minimum level of 2
2. The "Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (TestDaF), if all partial examinations have been passed resulting in a minimum level of 4
3. The "Prüfungsteil Deutsch" of the Studienkollegs assessment test
4. German language diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - second level in accordance with the resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of December 6, 1996, as amended (DSD II)
5. Goethe Certificate C1
6. Certificate of having passed the examination "telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule"

Applicants can gain admission to the degree program on the condition that they complete certain courses, to be set during the admission process. The subjects/courses will be determined by an examination commission appointed by the chair of the Examination Committee for the Sustainable Energy degree program. In the sense of the examination regulations, these courses count as preliminary examinations.

For questions regarding the recognition of a degree from a B.A. program, the semester abroad, or the required language qualifications please email the chair of the Admissions Committee directly.

This degree program is currently subject to a admission restriction.

For this year's fall semester, 10 study places are available for this sub-program.

In the event that an admission restriction is imposed, the following applicant selection terms and criteria will apply:

• The B.A. grade will be used for selection based on merit.
• If you do not yet have a B.A. degree, you will enter the selection procedure with the provisional grade. This provisional grade will be based on your transcript or a certificate from the examination office.
• If your provisional grade for the B.A. transcript changes after the selection procedure has been carried out, this will have neither a positive nor a negative effect on the admission decision. You may submit only one current grade record for consideration in the selection process.

If you have already successfully completed a master's or state examination degree program at a German university at the time of application and your selected program has admission restrictions, you are required to apply for admission as a "second degree applicant."

In an admissions-restricted degree program, the selection of second degree applicants is not based on final school exam grade and waiting period, but rather on

• Your overall grade achieved in the completed degree program
• Your justification for opting to do a second degree

Based on these two pieces of information the university determines a score, which it then uses to determine whether you can be admitted into your chosen program if the number of applicants exceeds the available study places.

A maximum of 3% of the available places in your chosen degree program will be allocated to second- degree applicants.

EXCEPTION: Graduates of a bachelor's program who are applying to a master's program for the first time are not viewed as second-degree applicants

The Application Procedure

As a second-degree applicant, you go through the online application procedure like everyone else, in the usual way. In one of the online screens, you must answer "yes" to the question of whether your chosen degree program is for a second degree (Zweitstudium). You will then be referred to the "Antrag auf Zulassung zum Zweitstudium" (Application for Admission as a Second-Degree Applicant), which you must submit together with your application documents. You should only use the application form if you are applying for admission to a degree program with restricted admissions.
