Curriculum Vitae
Agatha Majcher is a doctoral researcher in the RLS graduate program Energy System Tranformation. In her dissertation, she investigates the social distributional effects and acceptance conditions of carbon pricing and the phase-out of fossil fuel subsidies. Her work focuses on a systematic comparison between Germany and South Africa, using microsimulation and energy modelling. Her research examines how different climate policy instruments affect populations and energy transitions in diverse societal contexts, and how these instruments can be designed to be socially equitable and politically viable.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Agatha worked at the German Energy Agency (dena), where she developed strategies to increase energy efficiency in the building sector, prepared studies and financing models, and facilitated cross-sectoral dialogue processes. As a senior expert, she was responsible for the organisational and technical implementation of a nationwide, database-supported infrastructure project. During her time as a research associate at the Technical University of Berlin in the Coordination and Advisory Office for Environmental Issues, she supported civil society projects on socio-ecological sustainability and assisted students in transdisciplinary learning environments.
Agatha Majcher completed her master’s degree in Renewable Energy Systems (M.Sc.) at the Technical University of Berlin, where she also supervised the Energieseminar, an interdisciplinary project seminar on energy, environmental, and social issues in which she guided students in project-based work. She previously studied Process, Energy, and Environmental Engineering (B.Eng.) at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town. During her studies, she was active in student advising and worked as a tutor in the project “Energiewende macht Schule” at the Center for Innovative Energy Systems.
