Vita

Gisa Holzhausen has been working as a research associate in the FossilExit research group at the European University of Flensburg since November 2025.

Gisa studied North American Studies, Political Science, and Journalism and Communication Studies at the Free University of Berlin and completed her studies with a policy analysis on the conflict surrounding oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), a nature reserve in Alaska. Since then, she has been working in various professional positions to promote the sustainable transformation of the energy system and climate protection. 

As a consultant in the Project Development Program (PEP) of the German International Cooperation (giz) in Thailand, she supported German small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the fields of renewable energies and energy efficiency in market and project development in Southeast Asia. The focus here was on promoting cooperation between German and Thai companies in the fields of biomass and solar energy. In addition, she coordinated the establishment of a giz training institution for Southeast Asia.

As a senior consultant at the research and consulting firm Arepo, she advised and evaluated projects and programs in the field of climate and energy policy at national and international level. In addition, she was responsible for the company's business development. 

She gained further practical experience at the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Washington and in the field of journalism, among others. As part of her education and professional life, she spent a year abroad at the University of Lisbon and had longer stays in the USA, Indonesia, Australia, and Morocco.
