Digital TOEFL ITP®

The Digital TOEFL ITP® is a digital English language test. The TOEFL ITP® is not the TOEFL iBT®. The TOEFL ITP® tests receptive listening, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills from A2 to C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR scale.

General information

With the Digital TOEFL ITP® you can

  • Prove your English language skills for a semester abroad at all partner universities of the EUF. For more information, visit outgoing-PleaseRemoveIncludingDashes-@uni-flensburg.de.
  • Get a good idea of your English language ability for an academic context.
  • Fulfill admission requirements to a number of degree programs (check with the degree program to which you are applying).

NOTE: At the EUF, the Digital TOEFL ITP® is not accepted as proof of language proficiency for the English sub-degree (as part of the B.A. program in Educational Sciences)!

Listening: 50 multiple choice questions in 35 minutes

Grammar: 40 multiple choice questions in 25 minutes

Reading: 50 multiple choice questions in 55 minutes

You should schedule approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes for the test. You should expect to take all the time allotted to complete the test and realize that you may not ‘finish’ the entire test in the time allotted. This is normal for this type of test and not finishing the test can still result in a B2 level.

Upon completion of the test, testing materials are collected and sent for external evaluation and scoring. Score reports are then sent to the ZfS in a minimum of seven working days. Please note that it can sometimes take longer. You will be sent an email once your score report arrives.

It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the test format and question types before taking the test. Sample tests can be found at:

https://www.ets.org/toefl/itp/prepare.html

The examination fee for students and staff of the EUF and HS Flensburg is 60 Euro.

External interested parties are welcome, they pay 80 Euro.

ITP Score Reports

Understanding Your ITP Score Report

Understanding Your ITP Score Report

The ITP Score Report gives you a score for each section of the test—Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension—and a total score. The Score Report also gives you the CEFR equivalency for the score received for each section only. The CEFR uses A, B, and C with two levels per letter to give you an approximate language level. This looks like A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. The ITP will only provide a score with the range of A2-C1.

The scores below are the minimum total score a person needs to have to achieve the CEFR level.

Minimum Score (310–677 Points)CEFR Levels
627C1 – Proficient User - Effective Operational Proficiency
543B2 – Independent User – Vantage
460B1 – Independent User – Threshold
337A2 – Basic User – Waystage

For the purposes of study abroad you need a minimum of 543 points. Study programs at the Europa-Universität Flensburg may set the minimum score or a score somewhere between the minimum score of one level and the next level’s minimum score. Please refer to the study program’s coordinator or website for their current language requirements.

Disability & Health-Based Accommodations

Disability & Health-Based Accommodations

Disability and Health-related Needs for the ITP and iBT

If you have a recognized disability or health related need, an accommodation can be granted by Education Testing Services (ETS). The accommodation is not granted by Europa-Universität Flensburg. Unfortunately, ETS requires documentation for an accommodation to be given. If you are planning on taking an ITP test you should contact the Language Center as soon as possible. An ITP given with accommodation can only be given on paper because it requires additional time on the part of the Language Center and ETS for processing and proctoring. More information and required forms can be found in the Guide for Test Takers with Disabilities, here:

If you are seeking an accommodation for the TOEFL iBT, you must contact ETS directly here: https://www.ets.org/disabilities/test-takers/request-accommodations.html

Cancellation

Terms and Conditions for Cancellation of TOEFL ITP Registration

You can cancel your registration at any time by emailing The Language Center at sprachen-PleaseRemoveIncludingDashes-@uni-flensburg.de Please indicate the date you registered for and your full name on the email. Cancelling your registration results in the loss of your seat for that testing day. If you wish to register for a later date you will have to re-register and fill out a new Lastschriftformular. If no seat is available for your chosen later date, you can be put on the wait list or choose another date.

Payments generally are not processed until the day of the test. This avoids having to provide refunds due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. Should your payment be processed in error when you have not taken the test a refund will be issued. This refund will be given as soon as is able once the refund process has been initiated. Refunds are not issued directly by The Language Center and must be processed through Europa-Universität Flensburg’ finance office and the Finance Office in Kiel. This can take time and your patience is appreciated.
