Ireland and the Birth of Europe: An Exhibition

This is an exhibition of 16 panels illustrated with historic manuscripts from collections across Europe that tell the story of Ireland’s early influence on the development of learning and political thought in medieval Europe. The notion of a shared culture as the foundation of the European idea remains the greatest legacy of Columbanus and the generations of Irish monks and scholars who followed him to Continental Europe.

This exhibition is curated by the Department of Foreign Affairs with Dr Damian Bracken, University College Cork.

Come enjoy the exhibition in the foyer of the Helsinki building during Europe Week (May 8-12)!
