GraZ I Discussion Series “Doctoral Studies – complex and contrastive”
A doctorate is a useful qualification for a career both in and outside of academia.
The question of how and whether doctorates/doctoral programmes that have been started are completed has been the subject of research for some time. Studies generally point to factors that hinder and promote success.
With regard to diversity, however, research regarding different realities of life during the doctoral phase and the course doctoral studies may take, is still complex.
In the discussion series "Doctoral studies - complex and contrastive" we take up this question and invite EUF scholars to look back on their doctoral phase and report on the conditions for success, opportunity structures, support structures, delays, crises, and progress they experienced in the course of their doctoral studies, especially the question: What factors impacted the completion of the doctoral project?
In addition to the substantive discussion of the various factors for doctoral success, it also deals with supportive relationships and structures, motivation and feedback as well as generating new inspiration and network-related support.
We would be delighted if you could join us or to share your experiences!
Our fifth discussion in the series will take place on March 31, 2026 from 14:00 to 15:30:
Christian Filk, Professor of Media Education and Interdisciplinary Media Research as well as Head of the Seminar for Media Education, shares his experiences during his doctoral studies. The discussion offers the opportunity to exchange questions, ideas and experiences.
