Teaching with an academic focus

Are you fascinated by exploring topics in depth and sharing your knowledge? Then secondary school teaching might be perfect for you. In secondary schools, you teach children and adolescents starting from grade 5 and accompany them until they graduate.

In your teaching, you provide in-depth general education and prepare students for university or challenging career paths – the demand for subject-specific depth is greater compared to other types of schools. You guide your students through complex math problems or the analysis of world literature and introduce them step by step to scientific methods, work approaches, and ways of thinking.

With the M.Ed. Secondary School Teaching at Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF), we support you on this journey. The master’s program consists of three subjects:

With sociological and teaching-related information, specialized subject knowledge, and plenty of practical experience at school, we optimally prepare you for secondary school teaching.

This is what your studies will look like – semester by semester

In the first and second semesters of your master’s program in Secondary School Teaching, you continue studying the school subjects you studied during your bachelor’s. You move from the basics to in-depth knowledge and also learn how to teach this knowledge to children and adolescents.

Additionally, in the subject Bildung, Erziehung, Gesellschaft (Education and Society), you deal with topics such as teaching, education, professionalization, and schools in the context of society.

In the third semester, you continue studying your two subjects but also complete a practical semester at a school. This is reflected upon in an accompanying seminar so that you don’t have to process your experiences alone and can continue developing as a teacher.

If you want to broaden your horizons with a stay abroad, now would be a good time.

In the final semester, you write your master’s thesis in one of your three subjects. In addition, you attend further courses in Bildung, Erziehung, Gesellschaft (Education and Society).

Off into the world: Your semester abroad

If you want to expand your theoretical and practical experience from your bachelor’s and the first semesters of your master’s and test it in a completely different environment, studying abroad or completing a practical phase abroad is an excellent option.

This way, you can experience the fact that schools do not operate the same way everywhere as they do in Germany. At EUF, we make it easy for you to opt for this adventure: You’ll receive organizational support from our International Center, financial assistance through the Erasmus+ program, and a predefined time frame so that your master’s studies will not normally take any longer. Worldwide, you have access to nearly 90 partner universities; as a free mover, you have an even wider selection.

However, the semester abroad is not mandatory. If you prefer to stay, you can simply take additional courses in your subjects.
