What Are the EMERGE HUBs?
The EMERGE HUBs are physical spaces on campus that serve as visible and active meeting points for the European University Alliance EMERGE. They are designed to support collaboration, participation, and engagement across the university and with the wider community.
The HUBs are integrated into several EMERGE work areas and play a central role in connecting academic work, student activities, community engagement, and communication.
Within the work area of inclusive, resilient and sustainable campus development, special attention is given to ensuring that the HUBs are lively, attractive, and purposefully designed spaces that support events, learning, and outreach.
The HUBs can be used for a wide range of engagement activities, including:
- Community engagement activities
- Co-design of educational programmes
- Activities related to mobility and new mobility formats
- Co-creation of lifelong learning formats
- Participatory research activities
- Broadcasting and hybrid events
In this way, the HUBs function as shared spaces where students, staff, researchers, and external partners can work together.
In collaboration with our communication team, the HUBs are also used for communication and outreach activities, such as:
- Social media and “Instagrammable” events
- Pop-up performances, workshops, and themed gatherings
- Creative and interactive formats that encourage participants to share their experiences online
- Photography and video documentation of activities
These activities help make EMERGE visible both on campus and beyond.
Beyond their functional role, the HUBs serve as tangible representations of EMERGE’s values and mission. They make the alliance visible and accessible in everyday university life.
This is achieved through:
- Inclusive and socially relevant themes aligned with EMERGE’s mission
- Regular rotation of themes and design elements to keep the space fresh and engaging
- Collaborative art installations and visual elements
- Interactive installations that invite participation
- Photography contests and creative activities related to mobility and community involvement
The HUBs are closely connected to wider campus activities. They are designed to complement and enhance existing events by:
- Integrating “Instagrammable moments” into university events
- Documenting participant experiences
- Sharing content through social media and alliance channels
- Supporting cross-promotion with other campus initiatives
This ensures that the HUBs are embedded in everyday university life rather than functioning as isolated project spaces.
In Summary
The EMERGE HUBs are multifunctional, open, and dynamic spaces that:
- Support teaching, research, mobility, and community engagement
- Promote inclusion, sustainability, and resilience
- Serve as visible contact points for the EMERGE alliance
- Encourage creativity, participation, and communication
- Strengthen connections between students, staff, and the wider public
They are designed to be places where EMERGE is not only explained, but actively experienced.
