Internet via cable (LAN)

Use of LAN

Wired Internet (LAN) is available via network sockets in all of the staff offices and function rooms. It may be used by students, guests and staff alike

Benefits

The use of the wired Internet (LAN) at the University has a number of advantages over WiFi. These include:

  • higher bandwidth, potentially higher speeds for downloading and uploading files
  • always an available alternative if WiFi /Wireless LAN is unavailable
  • radio signals can not be intercepted on LAN, so it could be regarded as more secure. However, it still encrypts all wireless transmissions.
