Buber’s Profound Insights on How to Mend Fractured Relationships Across Various Levels
RIGA 310
The lecture will cover six dimensions of reconciliation that Buber saw as essential to transforming relationships:
1. Self-Reconciliation: How diasporic Jews strive to overcome alienation and achieve inner unity.
2. Intragroup Reconciliation: Imagining a community founded on shared values, beyond the nation-state. 3. Intergroup Reconciliation: Establishing just relations between Jews and Arabs.
4. Interfaith Reconciliation: Shaping Jewish-Christian dialogue grounded in mutual respect and difference.
5. Jewish-German Reconciliation: Confronting historical trauma and recognizing individual agency in light of Auschwitz.
6. Extragroup Reconciliation: Envisioning a "great peace" through shared humanity.
