BiLEV: First Education Catalogue Launched
On September 18, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Areas, Consumer Protection, and Europe (MLLEV), together with the Ministry of Education, presented the first education catalogue under the educational initiative "Agriculture, Nutrition, and Consumer Protection" (BiLEV) in Kiel. Supported by the Department of Nutrition and Consumer Education at Europa-Universität Flensburg, the project aims to develop extracurricular educational formats along the food supply chain. As the school year begins, the catalogue—currently featuring 185 educational offerings—will be available to all secondary schools in Schleswig-Holstein.
The diversity of the educational offerings and the involvement of a wide range of actors provide numerous opportunities for thematic and curricular integration. The topics span a broad range of subjects, including natural sciences, mathematics, economics, politics, technology, computer science, philosophy, arts, foreign languages, and sports. These extracurricular learning venues allow for the integration of theoretical and practical knowledge, making food production and processing directly tangible. A core goal of this initiative is to actively implement education for sustainable development.
"This initiative supports students in reflecting on their role in a world of complex challenges, making responsible decisions, and participating in transformative processes for sustainable development—even amidst contradictions and uncertainties," stated Education Minister Karin Prien.
Due to its broad themes and curricular connections, the BiLEV initiative is also of great interest to all future faculty and instructors at Europa-Universität Flensburg. For questions or suggestions about BiLEV, please contact: bilev-PleaseRemoveIncludingDashes-@uni-flensburg.de.
