Spaces & Practices in and beyond Europe in the long 20th Century
From 31 August to 1 September 2026, the workshop “Un/Making (National, Imperial, EU-European) Borders” will take place at Europa-Universität Flensburg. The event explores border-making and border-unmaking as historical processes, practices and infrastructures in and beyond Europe during the long 20th century. Panels will address, among other topics, actors and agencies of bordering, passports and identification infrastructures, mobility control, decolonisation and post-imperial border regimes, as well as the categorisation of mobility and migrants. The workshop is organised by Christiane Reinecke, Thea Kruse and Frederik Doktor and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through SFB 1604 “Production of Migration”. Date: 31 August – 1 September 2026. Venue: Europa-Universität Flensburg, Campus, Tallin 007.
