Sibling socialization in families with many children

- , All-day

Add to calendar

More than a quarter of all children in Germany grow up in families with many children, i.e. have two or more siblings. However, these siblings are hardly mentioned in research. Research on families and childhood is only marginally concerned with the independent relevance of sibling relationships in families.

Yet siblings also play a central role in socialization. In many-child families, intra-family relations multiply, forming generational micro-relationships. Due to their specific proximity, sibling relationships represent a special case of socialization. The age differences between siblings create difference, while the position as a child creates equality.

The aim of the workshop is to discuss research perspectives on "sibling socialization in many-child families". In this way, the relevance of siblings as a socialization sphere will be explored and research needs identified.
