Room4You – Flensburg Housing Initiative
Room4You – The Key to Success: Affordable Housing
Finding accommodation is one of the biggest challenges for students coming to Flensburg.
CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors connects students with people in the region who would like to offer accommodation.
A Community Initiative
Affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges facing students today.
At the same time, many people in Flensburg have spare living space that they are willing to share.
CampusEngel helps bring these people and students together.
Good to Know
CampusEngel and Europa-Universität Flensburg provide this platform solely to facilitate contact between accommodation providers and students. We are neither a real estate agency nor a party to any rental agreement. All arrangements and agreements are made directly between the individuals involved.
Europa-Universität Flensburg and CampusEngel assume no responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or content of housing offers and do not act as intermediaries, guarantors, or arbitrators in the event of legal or other disputes between the parties. The resolution of any such matters remains solely the responsibility of the accommodation provider and the student.

Offer Accommodation
Become a Housing Angel
Sometimes, all it takes is an open door to help someone start a new chapter in life.
Every semester, many students, especially international students, arrive in Flensburg looking for a place to call home. Perhaps you have a spare room, a small apartment, or temporary accommodation that you would be willing to offer.
By sharing your accommodation, you are doing more than helping someone find a place to live, you are helping a young person settle into life in Flensburg and feel welcome from the very beginning.

Housing for Help – Pilot Project in Flensburg
Housing for Help – Pilot Project in Flensburg
A New Local Initiative for Flensburg
Do you have a spare room and would appreciate occasional support with everyday tasks?
Or are you a student looking for affordable accommodation and willing to contribute your time and skills in return?
To help address the housing shortage in Flensburg and create meaningful connections between people, local stakeholders are currently exploring the development of a "Wohnen für Hilfe" (Housing for Help) pilot project in Flensburg and the district of Schleswig-Flensburg.
The idea is simple: people with available living space can offer accommodation to students or other suitable participants, while the residents provide agreed support in everyday life. This may include help with shopping, gardening, household tasks, digital devices, language practice, childcare, or companionship. Nursing and personal care services are excluded.
Important Information
Please note that this is a local Flensburg pilot initiative. It is independent of the "Wohnen für Hilfe" programme operated by Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, and there is currently no cooperation between the two projects.
The Flensburg initiative is being developed specifically to respond to local housing needs and community interests.
How Could It Work?
- Accommodation providers offer a room or living space.
- Students provide agreed support in return.
- Both parties jointly decide what assistance is needed and what can be offered.
- Any future matching process would be based on individual needs, expectations, and compatibility.
Examples of Support
- Shopping and errands
- Gardening
- Household assistance
- Language practice and tutoring
- Help with digital devices and technology
- Childcare (by individual agreement)
- Social interaction and companionship
Pilot Phase – Expressions of Interest
The project is currently in its exploratory pilot phase. We are gathering expressions of interest from both accommodation providers and students to assess whether a sustainable Housing for Help network can be established in Flensburg.
If you would like to offer accommodation, participate as a student, or simply receive more information, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Together, we can create affordable housing opportunities, strengthen community connections, and make better use of existing living space.

Looking for Accommodation
Looking for a Home in Flensburg?
Are you looking for affordable accommodation and willing to contribute your time and skills in return?
As part of the Housing for Help (Wohnen für Hilfe) pilot project, we aim to connect students with people who have available living space. Instead of paying full rent, participants may provide agreed support in everyday life, such as household assistance, gardening, shopping, help with digital devices, language practice, or other mutually agreed activities.
If you are interested in becoming part of the pilot project, please complete the form below and send it to campusengel@uni-flensburg.de. We will record your interest and keep you informed about the next steps.
Please note that submitting the form does not guarantee accommodation. During the pilot phase, we are collecting expressions of interest and exploring opportunities to create suitable housing partnerships.

The CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors are dedicated student volunteers who play a key role within the EMERGE project in welcoming and supporting new students at Europa-Universität Flensburg.
Their goal is to help first-year students successfully navigate university life — from enrollment to everyday campus experience — ensuring a smooth, informed, and inclusive start to their studies.
What do the CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors (CEEA) do?
The CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors provide peer-to-peer support and information on a wide range of topics, including:
- Enrollment and campus orientation
- Classrooms and placement tests
- Language courses
- Housing and health insurance
- Childcare and family support
- Leisure activities and student life
- Preparation for study abroad
They also offer a listening ear, encourage new students, and help connect them with the appropriate services and contacts on campus.
Who They Are
The team consists of both German and international students with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. All CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors speak fluent English, and many speak additional languages. This helps ensure that new students feel supported linguistically, socially, and academically.
CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors support for first-semester students is available during the fall semester only, from mid-July to the end of October.
Outside this period, the CampusEngel EMERGE Ambassadors continue to work behind the scenes, actively disseminating the EMERGE identity and promoting international mobility across campus.
A Community Within EMERGE
CampusEngel are more than just student contact persons — they form a values-driven and dynamic micro-community. Together with the Student Advisory Board and the EMERGE Student Forum, they represent the three pillars of student participation within the EMERGE project.
As ambassadors for international mobility, they share their experiences and actively encourage other students to take part in exchange opportunities and gain international experience.
