The EUF Centre for Irish Studies is ​pleased to announce the first CfIS Visiting Research Fellow: Dr Lucy Brookes!​ 
 

Dr Lucy Brookes completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Universities of Oxford and York, and is now the Fitzjames Fellow in Medieval Literature and Language at Merton College, Oxford. Her first book, Convention and the Individual in Medieval English Romance was published with D. S. Brewer earlier in 2025. In it, she explores the growing significance of the individual in fiction after the twelfth century through a study of conventionality and subjectivity in romance. At Oxford, Lucy teaches literature in English from 650-1550. ​Her other research interests include the nature of truth and fiction in the Middle Ages, Arthurian literature, and Victorian medievalism.
