Hungary: visit of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages

A delegation of the Committee of Experts is visiting the Hungary this week from 26-30 May 2025 to evaluate progress made in the protection and promotion of regional and minority languages. The delegation is meeting with the representatives of the regional or minority languages speakers and the competent authorities in several municipalities. The visit also includes meetings with representatives of the Government and relevant state authorities.

This is the eighth monitoring visit of the Committee of Experts in Hungary. Following this visit, the Committee will draw up its evaluation report on the implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in Hungary, containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The report is expected to be published in 2026.
