As part of PartWiss 26, Jonas Lage will co-facilitate and contribute to a workshop on the housing needs of empty-nesters.

The focus will be on the perspectives of the people who use and inhabit living spaces. Together, we aim to highlight experiences, needs, and diverse viewpoints and discuss how these perspectives can be appropriately incorporated into participatory and transdisciplinary processes.

Among other things, the workshop will address the following questions:

• What experiences and needs do residents bring to such processes?

• How can knowledge drawn from everyday life be integrated on an equal footing with scientific and planning expertise?

• What forms of participation foster an open and productive exchange?

• How can differing interests, resources, and scope for action be taken into account?

• What is needed for participation to lead to concrete changes?

PartWiss 26 is a conference dedicated to networking and strengthening participation in science. The conference will take place from November 18 to 20, 2026, in Berlin, under the annual theme “Spaces and Resources for Participatory and Transdisciplinary Research.” It is aimed at researchers, practitioners, civil society actors, policymakers, and interested citizens.

We look forward to exchanging ideas and engaging in a diverse discussion on how residents’ perspectives can be incorporated into research, planning, and processes of change.
