Language, identity and education in European contexts – applications for the BIP in Alexandroupolis are open until 4 October.

Language, identity and education in European contexts – applications for the BIP in Alexandroupolis are open until 4 October.

As part of the European university alliance EMERGE, the International Center is inviting applications for the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) "Multilingualism in Action: Language Development, Identity and Education in European Contexts" at the Democritus University of Thrace.

Participants explore multilingualism, language, identity and education in European contexts. The programme combines theoretical content with workshops, cultural activities and international collaboration. Topics include bilingualism and multilingualism between facts and myths, language development across the lifespan, inclusive education and translanguaging in the multilingual classroom, as well as migration, minority languages and language policy.

The programme is held in English.

Programme structure

The on-site phase takes place from 24 to 28 May 2027 in Alexandroupolis. It is complemented by two online sessions: one in May for preparation and introduction, and one in early June for reflection and collaborative follow-up. Upon successful participation, 5 ECTS are awarded.

The coordinating institution is the Democritus University of Thrace; the other partners are the University of Limerick and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. Prof. Dr Nils Langer will accompany the group from the EUF.

Application

Applications can be submitted until 4 October 2026 via the Erasmus+ BIP/short-term application form. If you would like to apply for travel days or additional grants ("top-ups"), you must submit the declaration of honour together with your application – it cannot be submitted at a later date. Notification of whether funding has been granted will be provided by 12 October 2026 at the latest.

Whether the ECTS credits can be credited to your studies must be clarified individually in your degree programme; participation without recognition is also possible.
