BAföG

Lack of funding should not bar any student from getting a quality education. Regardless of your social and economic situation, you should have the opportunity to obtain the training and education that match your skills and interests. If you need financial aid to help cover the cost of your studies at Europa-Universität Flensburg, you can apply for student financial aid (BAföG) through the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein.

Information and advice

If you apply for BAföG, student financial aid provided under the German Federal Training Assistance Act, you must do so through the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein. That association is also responsible for answering any questions you may have about BAföG:

The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein and the Ministry of Education and Research (Ministerium für Bildung und Forschung) provide information about BAfög.

The Studentenwerk has a branch office in the Telekom building off campus (Eckernförder Landstraße 65, Flensburg), where it provides advice on BAföG twice a week. You can also obtain information directly from the person responsible for you, or from the main office in Kiel (phone: 0431 881 60).

The student union (AStA) of Europa-Universität Flensburg also provides advice relating to BAföG and social counseling.

Certificates

After a number of semesters, students who receive financial aid in accordance with the German Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) must demonstrate that their studies are progressing appropriately in order to continue receiving support.

If you can demonstrate and submit proof of the fact that you have obtained the necessary credits (usually after completing 4 semesters (§48 BAföG), you will receive a certificate. This certificate is required in order to continue getting financial aid, in accordance with the German Federal Training Assistance Act. You can obtain this certificate from the following contact persons:

International Institute of Management and Economic Education students:

  • Please submit the application form to Ms. Karin Drenkow. You can also send Ms. Drenkow the form through campus internal mail (via the mailroom in the OSLO building).

Students of „B. A. Bildungswissenschaften“:

The following requirements apply to students of the B.A. Bildungswissenschaften (i.e. prospective teachers) in all subjects:

  • after the 3rd semester: 28 CP per subject and 88 CP in total
  • after the 4th semester: 35 CP per subject and 109 CP in total
  • after the 5th semester: 45 CP per subject and 141 CP in total

Sample calculation for the CP level (CP credit point, German: Leistungspunkt).

Students for whom the required number of points is shown on the Transcript of Records (ToR for short; this can be downloaded from Studiport under “Notenspiegel”) can simply send their ToR to the BAFöG office; in this case it is not necessary to fill in Form 5 (= Bescheinigung nach §48).

Only students for whom (e.g. due to incomplete modules) the achievement level is not evident from the ToR should contact the BAFöG representatives at the EUF (Dr. Thomas Altfelix, Dr. Gabriela Bitai, Prof. Dr. Michael Schmitz) and have form 5 completed.

You can send your request by e-mail to bafoeg-PleaseRemoveIncludingDashes-@uni-flensburg.de

Please note the following information:

  • Attach your current ToR.
  • Attach form 5 pre-filled at the top (name etc.). Use the digitally fillable version and complete it on your computer.
  • Let us know in your email for which semester you need a certificate of achievement (usually 4th semester). You can probably find this information in a letter from the BAFöG office.
  • Please let us know whether you have changed subjects and, if so, whether you need the certificate for the other two subjects or for the subject you have changed.
  • If you have received a letter from the BAFöG office, please attach it to the e-mail to avoid further queries.

Alternatively, you can also come to Prof. Schmitz's [21764] office hours in person. In this case, please bring the same documents in digital or paper form and a printed copy of Form 5.

In justified exceptional cases, Dr. Pascal Delhom is also available to assist you.

European Cultures and Society students:

In justified exceptional cases, you can also contact Dr. Pascal Delhom.
