Selection procedure
The application and selection procedure is organised and carried out by the Europa-Universität Flensburg.
Applicants must complete the online form in full and upload the required supporting documents. Please refer to the FAQs to find out which documents are required.
As soon as the application deadline has expired, the scholarship committee will decide on the scholarship holders to be selected on the basis of the applications received by the deadline and taking into account the number of sponsorships accepted and - as far as possible - the desired subject disciplines or degree programmes.
If special (e.g. organisational) circumstances make it necessary, the decision to award the scholarship can be made retrospectively. In any case, the application and selection criteria listed below will be used:
Bachelor Students
- a) Applicants for a Bachelor's degree programme and Bachelor's students in the 1st semester: 100% of the average grade of the higher education entrance qualification (HZB) is taken into account.
- b) Bachelor's students in the 2nd semester: 50% of the average grade of the HZB and 50% of the average grade of the study and examination achievements to date are taken into account.
- c) Bachelor's students in the 3rd or higher semester: the average grade of the coursework and examinations completed to date is taken into account.
In cases b) and c), at least 15 ECTS credits must have been earned per completed semester.
Master Students
- a) Applicants for a Master's degree programme and Master's students in the 1st semester: 100% of the final grade of the Bachelor's degree programme, which is an admission requirement for admission to the Master's degree programme, is taken into account.
- b) Master's students in the 2nd semester: 50% of the final grade of the Bachelor's degree programme, which is a prerequisite for admission to the Master's degree programme, and 50% of the average grade of the coursework and examinations completed to date.
- c) Master's students in the 3rd or higher semester: 100% of the average grade of the coursework and examinations completed to date is taken into account.
In cases b) and c), at least 15 ECTS credits must have been earned per completed semester.
Special study-related achievements and voluntary activities
Your calculated average can be upgraded if the relevant evidence is available, namely
- for special study-related achievements (category 2)
- for social and voluntary commitment (category 3)
- for personal and family challenges (category 4)
by up to 0.1 bonus points per category.
Category 2 benefits are exclusively study-related awards and prizes as well as experience abroad, for example with Erasmus, as long as this involves a minimum stay of three months. The bonus applies to both international students and outgoing students of Europa-Universität Flensburg. Scholarships obtained are not taken into account.
For example, regular involvement in social, political, religious or social organisations, institutions, groups or committees within or outside the university for a period of at least six months within the last two calendar years, including the current calendar year, can be recognised as category 3 involvement. The organisations, institutions, groups or committees must be committed to the free democratic basic order of the Federal Republic of Germany within the meaning of Article 21 (2) of the Basic Law. Completed vocational training is also recognised as a special activity. No acquired scholarships are taken into account.
Challenges in category 4 are special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for children if custody exists, especially as a single parent, caring for close relatives in need of care with at least care level 2, working in the family business, gainful employment while studying, family origin or a migration background.
Determining the overall score for your application
The basis for determining the overall score of your Deutschlandstipendium application is the base value, which is calculated from your average grade. If supporting documentation is provided, the criteria listed above are applied and subtracted from the base value. The overall score of your application is then determined by taking into account any bonus points. Your average grade (before deduction of possible bonus points) should be at least 2.0; exceptions may apply. Rank lists are prepared on this basis, and the scholarships are awarded accordingly.
