Who We Are: Leading Sustainable Energy Education for Global Impact

At SEDev, we believe that sustainable energy is at the heart of sustainable development. With climate change and extreme poverty as two of the most pressing global challenges, energy solutions are more critical than ever. For over 35 years, we have been committed to empowering professionals worldwide through education and training, equipping them with the skills needed to drive sustainable energy transition.

Sustainable Energy and Development (SEDev) is a global Master of Engineering program based in Flensburg, Germany—a coastal city on the Danish border along the Baltic Sea. Hosted by a small yet dynamic university, SEDev invites you to explore sustainable energy systems as a driver of social, economic, and personal development.

As part of international development cooperation, our graduates hold key positions in the energy sector, governments, NGOs, and international organizations. Whether you aim to develop expertise as a generalist, manager, or specialist, SEDev provides practice-oriented, science-based qualifications tailored to the global energy transition.

SEDev is one of three specializations within the M.Eng. Sustainable Energy program, jointly offered by Europa-Universität Flensburg and Flensburg University of Applied Sciences:

  • Sustainable Energy and Development (SEDev): Focuses on sustainable energy solutions in development cooperation, designed for engineers with relevant work experience, primarily from the Global South.
  • Sustainable Energy Transformation (SET): Explores the societal aspects of the energy transition.
  • Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE): Emphasizes the technical dimensions of sustainable energy systems.

SEDev is a post-graduate development-related programme supported by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD since 1989, and it offers scholarships for highly qualified applicants.
