Irish Studies & Cultural Theory Summer School: Resistance and Adaptation

The annual Irish Studies & Cultural Theory Summer School will be taking place again in Flensburg from 19-25 July 2026 (with the official academic programme running from July 20-24)!

In 2025, the summer school took place in Vienna with the theme “A Sense of Place,” and we are pleased to offer it again, this time in Flensburg, with the theme “Adaptation and Resistance.” This timely topic will bring in the discourses of politics, history, geography, landscape, art, ecocriticism, gender, genre, and screen/stage adaptation. It will also touch upon fields of study such as sustainability studies, animal studies, folklore studies, media studies, film studies, cultural studies, and literary studies. There will also be an introductory class to the Irish language!

The summer school is being organized as an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme, for which the EUF partnered with the Universities of Cork, Limerick, Prague, Trinity College Dublin, and Charles University Prague.

The summer school was accredited according to the ECTS System (please speak with your programme coordinator regarding compatibility)More information about this, the speakers, the theme, and registration information can be found in the infosheet below.

Please note: Unfortunately, we are not able to offer any funding for travel or accommodation; this will have to be self-arranged. Likewise, there is no student accommodation offered through the EUF, but we will happily send you a list of budget accommodation in Flensburg upon request.
