Studies completed—time to celebrate!

Graduates from all three profile areas—Education, Europe, and Transformation—celebrate after receiving their degrees from Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF)

Approximately 760 guests celebrated at Deutsches Haus with the 295 new graduates. During the two graduation ceremonies, four graduates were awarded a prize for their outstanding master's theses.

Equipped with more than just subject-specific knowledge: Graduates from the European and Transformation Studies degree programs

The ceremony began with the graduation of 101 students from the master’s degree programs in Transformation Studies, European Studies, Education in Europe, Culture – Language – Media, and International Management Studies, as well as 165 students from the bachelor’s degree programs in European Cultures and Society and International Management.

Prof. Dr. Anke Wischmann, Vice President for Teaching and Learning, encouraged the students: “During your studies, you have gained more than just subject-specific knowledge. You have learned how to venture into unfamiliar territory, how to deal with challenging texts and complex issues, and how to conduct research. You have learned to be guided by facts and to acknowledge controversial perspectives. May this guide you in the future.”

Taking the next step toward a teaching career with a master's degree

This year, for the first time, 42 students from the Bachelor's program in Educational Sciences took part in a graduation ceremony. In total, 486 students completed their Bachelor's degree in Educational Sciences. Many are now enrolling in a master’s degree program in teacher education. 152 graduates of the master’s programs in teacher education celebrated at Deutsches Haus. 606 students were awarded their master’s degrees this year. For many, the teaching practice (Vorbereitungsdienst) in a school is the next step toward becoming a teacher.

Prof. Dr. Anke Wischmann emphasizes that educational practice plays a vital role in preserving democracy: “Democracy thrives on people’s ability to disagree with one another, tolerate different perspectives, and also set boundaries when people are devalued and their rights are called into question. You have learned a great deal about shaping educational institutions as central spaces where precisely this can be learned and experienced.”

International graduates begin a new chapter in their lives with a traditional jump in the air

Early in September, students from the master’s degree program in Energy and Environmental Management in Developing Countries and the M.Eng. in Sustainable Energy and Development celebrated their graduation. The nine graduates come from nine different countries and had already worked as engineers (including in the energy sector) before beginning their studies at EUF. During their studies in northern Germany, they were able to explore the topics of sustainability and energy in developing countries and are now part of the 37th class of graduates from development-related postgraduate degree programs in Flensburg. The program director, Prof. Dr. Bernd Möller, and colleagues Nafiseh Mirzakhani and Dr. Mominul Hasan presented the graduates with their certificates.
