Linda Baasch Elected as New Chancellor of Europa-Universität Flensburg
In a secret ballot held on Wednesday, March 26, the Senate of Europa-Universität Flensburg elected Linda Baasch as the university’s new chancellor. A qualified lawyer and experienced higher education administrator, Baasch emerged as the successful candidate and has accepted the position. She will succeed Stephanie Brady, who is stepping down after six years in office and did not seek a second term.
Two candidates had been recommended by the search committee, made up of members of the extended Senate and representatives of the University Council and chaired by Professor Dr Anne Reichold. Both candidates presented themselves to the university community ahead of the vote.
A commitment to future-oriented university development
"With the election of Linda Baasch as our new chancellor, we are signaling our strong commitment to forward-looking university development," noted President Professor Dr Christiane Hipp, expressing her delight. "I look forward to working with her to strengthen Europa-Universität Flensburg and explore new opportunities and perspectives together."
Seasoned university administrator returns to northern Germany
"I’m grateful for the trust placed in me," said Baasch following the election, "and I look forward to taking on this responsibility at EUF and shaping the university’s future together with all of you."
Born in Kiel in 1967, Linda Baasch is a fully qualified lawyer specializing in higher education law. She has held senior positions at several universities, including leading the student services department at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and a faculty administration unit at Humboldt University in Berlin. She also worked at HAW Hamburg and has served as chancellor of Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle since 2017.
Fully prepared to meet the challenges ahead
Senate Chair Professor Dr Berthold Hass also welcomed the result: "Today's election of the new chancellor was an important decision for the Senate. With the appointment of Linda Baasch, the Executive University Board is now complete and well equipped to meet the challenges ahead. We look forward to working with her and would like to express our sincere thanks to our outgoing chancellor, Stephanie Brady, for her dedicated service over the past six years."
The future chancellor will serve on the university's five-member Executive Board. Under the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Education Act, she will be responsible for managing the university administration under the authority of the president and will serve as the university’s budget officer. Her term of office is six years.
