Strengthening Research and Knowledge Transfer
At its meeting on January 21, 2026, the Senate elected the professor of German as a Second and Foreign Language as the new Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer. Prof. Dr. Marion Döll has been a member of Europa-Universität Flensburg since 2023, where she works at the Institute of German Studies.
Thanks for personal commitment to a research-strong university
Europa-Universität Flensburg has significantly expanded its research performance in recent years, as is also reflected in rising levels of third-party funding. I would like to expressly thank Prof. Dr. Iulia Patrut for her tireless commitment to our research-strong university. Today’s election underscores that the university continues to be a place for research on issues of future importance and for strong knowledge transfer into the region. I look forward to shaping this work together with Prof. Dr. Marion Döll within the Executive Board starting in April,” said Prof. Dr. Christiane Hipp, President of Europa-Universität Flensburg.
Building on the university's research strength
Prof. Dr. Marion Döll has been Professor of German as a Second and Foreign Language since 2023. Prior to joining Europa-Universität Flensburg, she was a professor at the University of Teacher Education Upper Austria in Linz, where she held various positions and committee roles and helped advance structural reforms related to academization as well as the development of research infrastructure. Her research focuses on the intersections of sociolinguistics and migration pedagogy. She is currently examining the opportunities and limitations of using GPT-based tools to reduce language-related educational disadvantage.
“I am very grateful for the election and for the confidence placed in me. As Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer, I am committed to ensuring that EUF continues to be a research-strong university and that it becomes even more visible in this role. I would like to further advance our efforts to obtain membership in the German Research Foundation and to continue strengthening our research infrastructure in such a way that it supports the diverse and innovative ideas of our researchers at EUF in achieving success,” said Prof. Dr. Marion Döll, the elected Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer. She will assume office at the start of the new term, on April 1, 2026.
