Launch Event: Degrowth and Global (Inter)dependencies
Online launch of a special issue on degrowth and global (inter)dependencies.
This online launch celebrates the publication of the Special Issue Degrowth and Global (Inter)dependencies in the journal New Global Studies. The issue engages with ongoing debates about the global reach and implications of degrowth, exploring diverse perspectives on global dependencies, justice, and socio-ecological transformation. It examines how degrowth can be understood in the context of international economic structures, power relations, and global inequalities.
Following an introduction, the guest editors Jenny Ufer (Eurac Research), Felix Windegger (Eurac Research), Matthias Schmelzer (Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design & Research, Europa-Universität Flensburg), and Brototi Roy (Autonomous University of Barcelona) will present the motivation and aims of the Special Issue. Authors of the individual contributions will then discuss topics including global trade dependencies, food systems, degrowth and global justice, feminist perspectives, reparations, and North–South relations. The event concludes with an open discussion and audience Q&A.
