Jonas Lage analyzes housing distribution, existing stock potentials, and institutional frameworks at the Lowtech Symposium 2026.

The Lowtech 2026 professional symposium, part of the Zukunft Bau innovation program, explores how resource-efficient construction and social justice can be considered together.

In his lecture, Jonas Lage (Europa-Universität Flensburg / Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design and Research) examines the historical development of housing since industrialization and the post-war period and analyzes today’s crisis in housing provision and distribution.

The focus is on the potential of existing building stock to increase the availability of housing, questions of spatial justice, and the institutional frameworks necessary for socially oriented and public-interest housing development. The lecture situates current distributional challenges within broader socio-ecological transformation processes and links the use of existing stock with perspectives for structural reform.
