Nicole Poppenhagen

In her Ph.D. project, Nicole Poppenhagen examines Chinse American family narratives from a transpacific perspective. These life narratives focus on family histories across multiple generations within and beyond the Pacific as they not only reimagine what has been called the “American Pacific” from a Chinese American perspective but also understand the Chinese American experience as inherently shaped by its transpacific dimension. She uses the concept of transpacific relationality to understand both the search for belonging as well as the complex sense of connectedness with the places and peoples in and beyond the Pacific region that these family narratives (re)create across time and space.
