Internationaler ZeBUSS - Workshop: Kindheit, Bildung, Ethnographie

Um die Praxis von Kindheit(en) zu erforschen, bieten sich ethnographische Verfahren an. Der Workshop gibt Einblicke in eine vergleichende, ERC-geförderte Längsschnittstudie  zur Partizipation von Kindern im öffentlichen Leben (Connectors Study) und erläutert die Spezifika einer solchen Ethnographie. Es werden verschiedene Aspekte diskutiert: inhaltlich wird die Entstehung gesellschaftlichen Handelns als eine mögliche Antwort auf pädagogische und institutionelle Krisen und deren Hervorbringung sozialer Ungleichheit ergründet. Methodisch geht es darum, fragen nach der Rolle und Konstruktion des Kindes als Kind und als Informant für die teilnehmende Beobachtung zu beantworten und danach zu fragen, was dies für die Ethnographie und die Kindheitsforschung heißt. Am Material wird der Frage "What is the case?" und den Analyseformen ethnographischen Materials nachgegangen.

International ZeBUSS-Workshop: Childhood, Education, Ethnography

Ethnographies are of (first) choice if it comes to research on the practice of childhood and infancies. The workshop aims to give insights into an ongoing longitudinal cross-cultural ERC-funded study on children's participation in public life (Connectors Study) and will explain the ethnographical approach which has been employed in it. We will discuss different aspects: in terms of content, we will explore the emergence of social action as a possible response to the educational and institutional crisis and their social inequalities; in terms of methods, we aim to discuss methodological questions on the role and construction of the child being a child and informant in participant observation, and what does this means for ethnography and childhood studies. By employing examples, we will raise the question "What is the case?" and will follow forms of analysis of ethnographical data.
