Research Atelier Spring Semester 2026

Prof. Dr. Claudius Gräbner-Radkowitsch & Dr. Sébastien Tremblay

Organization

The Research Atelier is an important part of the ICES Research School and will occur every other Wednesday from 13:00-14:00 (see below for details and exceptions). Those attending in person are welcome to join us for coffee afterward and/or a lunch beforehand. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format: we will meet in person in RIGA 601 and also offer the option to join via Webex using the following link.

For organizational matters, we will use the online platform Basecamp. If you haven't received an invitation yet, please contact Claudius via email:

A short tutorial in PDF form is provided in the documents section of Basecamp.

Goal of the Research Atelier

The Research Atelier serves as a platform where early-stage researchers can receive constructive feedback on their work. This means that presenting final and complete papers is not necessary. Instead, everyone is encouraged to share ongoing work and seek feedback on open questions during the Atelier. Additionally, you are encouraged to share this information, along with an invitation to join, with all early-career researchers who might be interested in participating.

To allow for feedback, aim to give a presentation lasting no more than 30 minutes, preferably 20. Also, remember that we are an interdisciplinary group, so you might need to clarify disciplinary specificities and terms related to your work.

There are also dates when we do not listen to presentations by fellow scholars, but instead discuss topics of more general interest to young scholars, such as giving and receiving constructive feedback, navigating peer review, or addressing challenges related to inequalities and hierarchies within academia. We will go over the details during our meetings or through Basecamp.

For each date, there will be a so-called “message board” on Basecamp. Here, the presenters can share their material and ask questions in advance (e.g., regarding aspects of the work they are most interested in receiving feedback on). All others can add comments after the presentations and post literature suggestions, etc. This way, people who cannot attend the presentation can also share their comments. Of course, you are invited to submit your feedback even if you do not have the opportunity to present. I will explain how we will organize this ‘friendly review’ process during our first meeting and via a video to be posted in due course.
