Search for accommodation for international students
"Our exchange students in particular have a hard time finding accommodation," explains Amelie Brandt from Campus Engeln. "They usually need furnished rooms for a stay of 5-6 months, but local landlords often prefer longer-term contracts with a minimum duration of one year."
This year's housing shortage has been exacerbated by several factors, including delays in visa and immigration procedures, the increasing demand for student housing, which far exceeds the number of rooms provided by the Student Union. In addition, some landlords require a SCHUFA report, which international students are unable to provide, making the search for accommodation even more difficult.
The Europa-Universität Flensburg is asking for support in the search for accommodation and is appealing to the people of Flensburg. Anyone who has vacant rooms, apartments or shared flats in which students could be accommodated is asked to get in touch. "We want to make sure that students feel welcome and supported in Flensburg," says Lucila Morales de Mittag from the International Office. "Our international students contribute greatly to the diversity and cultural richness of our community, and providing them with suitable accommodation is an important first step in helping them to succeed academically and socially."
