Purpose
To allow you to use this website without restrictions, we use so-called cookies. Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. The use of cookies does not allow us to view files on your computer. They serve to make the site more user-friendly and secure. They also enable the recognition of users and the analysis of website usage. A randomly generated unique identification number is stored in these text files. In addition, a cookie contains information about its origin and storage period. Cookies cannot store any other data.
The cookies set by our website pose no risk to users’ computer systems, as they cause no harm and do not contain viruses or similar threats.
We use three types of cookies to operate our website:
- Functional cookies necessary to ensure the technical operation and basic functions of our website.
- Analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with our website and to enable targeted advertising activities. Information is collected and analyzed anonymously. Analytics cookies provide us with valuable insights to optimize the website and our product offerings.
- Third-party cookies, where third-party media content is integrated, such as when playing YouTube videos.
The use of cookies can also be prevented by adjusting the settings in your browser. If your browser supports “do not track” technology and you have enabled it, no usage profile will be created based on your visit. Links to other websites
The Europa-Universität Flensburg website contains links to third-party websites or to other Europa-Universität Flensburg websites. If you follow a link to a website outside the scope of responsibility of Europa-Universität Flensburg, we would refer you to the corresponding data protection information for that website. Europa-Universität Flensburg assumes no responsibility or liability for the content or data processing on these websites. Please therefore review the data protection information of these websites to gain an overview of their data processing activities.
External links (hyperlinks) to other websites are marked with this symbol:
Data is only processed at the link destination when you click on the external link (e.g., IP address, user agent, address of the website from which you accessed the URL, time of access). This is technically necessary due to the underlying Internet protocol (TCP/IP = TCP – Transmission Control Protocol + IP – Internet Protocol). You can find more detailed information on data protection in the data protection section on the destination website.
If you do not want your data to be processed on the destination website, please do not click the link.

If you are logged in to your account, this data is directly associated with your account. You can prevent this association by logging out before clicking the play button. YouTube or Google stores these data as usage profiles and uses them for advertising, market research, and/or to tailor its website to user needs. You have the right to object to the creation of these usage profiles, which you must direct to Google as the operator of YouTube.
In the case of YouTube (Google), usage data may, under certain circumstances, be processed outside the European Union, specifically in the United States. However, the Data Privacy Framework (effective since 2023) has reinstated an adequacy decision for the United States, provided that recipients are certified, or that an EU level of protection is ensured through appropriate additional measures.
Google provides further information on YouTube’s data protection at www.google.at/intl/de/policies/privacy/. By playing YouTube videos, you consent to data processing by Google. We do not process the relevant data ourselves. By playing the videos, you expressly consent to data processing (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Newsletter
Purpose
You have the option to subscribe to newsletters via our website. Some departments at Europa-Universität Flensburg offer their own newsletters. This allows you to stay up to date and receive interesting campus news, topic-related information, and invitations to our events. For this purpose, we require your email address and your declaration that you consent to receiving the newsletter. In addition, we use the so-called double opt-in procedure to prevent a third party from misusing your email address and registering for our newsletter without your knowledge. To do this, we send a message to the provided email address asking for your confirmation for registration to the mailing list. You will then receive a confirmation of your successful registration for the newsletter.
Legal basis
The legal basis for sending the newsletter is your consent in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Recipients
Your registration data is forwarded to an internal email server at Europa-Universität Flensburg using the open-source mailing list system Sympa. Your data is not disclosed to third parties or combined with other data.
Storage time
Your data will be deleted after you withdraw from the newsletter and will no longer be processed for this purpose.
Withdrawal of consent
You may withdraw your consent at any time without providing a reason. Each newsletter contains a link that allows you to unsubscribe at any time.
You will then receive an email requesting you to confirm your wish to be unsubscribed from the list. We will then immediately delete your data related to the newsletter distribution. The lawfulness of the processing carried out between your consent and its withdrawal remains unaffected.
Necessity to provide data
You are under no obligation to provide this data. Without providing your data, you cannot receive our newsletter.

This data may be transmitted to processors, but not to third parties.
Storage time
The data provided will be used exclusively to process your inquiry and will be deleted once the purpose has been fulfilled, provided there are no legal retention obligations.

You are under no obligation to provide this data. However, without your email address and a description of the issue, we cannot process your inquiry or contact you.
Contacting us
Purpose
If you contact us via the contact form on the website, by email, or by phone, we will store the data you provide to process your inquiry and in case of follow-up questions.

Storage time
The data will only be stored for as long as is necessary to achieve the specific purpose or as required by statutory retention periods.

- in the context of contract fulfilment, you are obliged to provide the data necessary for the proper handling of your inquiry;
- for reasons other than those mentioned above, you are under no obligation to provide data.
Failure to provide your data would mean that we cannot process your inquiry further. This could result in you potentially violating any existing obligations to cooperate with us.
User analysis with Matomo
We have configured Matomo so that web analytics generally function without cookies (exceptions: when exercising the right to object and when the objection is withdrawn).
The information generated in this way regarding your use of this website is stored exclusively on a server at Europa-Universität Flensburg (server location: Flensburg, Germany).
The information collected by Matomo helps Europa-Universität Flensburg analyze its website to ensure the continuous improvement of our offerings. This allows us to determine which individual pages are visited more frequently and which less so. In this way, you help the university optimize its website so that important information reaches its intended audience—the website visitors.
The collected data is stored completely anonymously and does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your identity or other personal data. The information is only stored after the IP address has been truncated or anonymized. The truncated IP address therefore no longer allows any identification of the user. No data is shared with third parties.
At Europa-Universität Flensburg, the web analytics software Matomo follows the guidelines and recommendations of the Independent State Center for Data Protection Schleswig-Holstein (Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz, ULD).
If you nevertheless wish to object to the anonymous collection of data regarding your website visits, this can be done very easily. If your browser indicates via the so-called Do Not Track header that you do not wish to be tracked, Matomo will respect this setting and will not create records of your usage behavior.
If you wish to object to tracking, you can do so on this page by unchecking the checkbox:
Please note that in this case, a cookie will be set to store this decision and inform us of it when you visit this website again.
If you wish to withdraw your objection, you can re-grant your consent to the anonymous collection of access data by checking the checkbox. A cookie must also be set for this purpose so that your decision can be saved.
Please note: If you delete the cookie stored in your web browser, your usage behavior will be recorded again the next time you visit the website—subject to a corresponding Do Not Track setting.
