Migration is increasingly considered as a solution to alleviate labour shortage in European Countries however empirical evidences of this solution are scarce.  Considering a set of Western European countries over the period 2006-2018, this paper provides a measure of labour shortage by occupation over time for each considered country. This measure is used to identify which occupations are in shortage and the prevalence of this shortage over the period considered. Then we analyse how an exogenous increase of migrant workers affects occupational shortage in receiving countries.  Results show a positive effect of migrant as there is an inverse relationship between the share of migrants and occupational shortage in the receiving countries.
