Antje Grotheer, Vice-President of Bremen State Parliament and member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) joined the students of the B.A. EUCS and the M.A. EUS for the Midsummer Lecture on Thursday, 22.06.2023

Antje Grotheer, Vice-President of Bremen State Parliament and member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) joined the students of the B.A. EUCS and the M.A. EUS on Thursday, June 22nd to talk about her work in the CoR.

She started by explaining the functioning of the Committee of Regions, its political connections and most importantly its impact in the several regions of the European Union and beyond.

An especially relevant and current topic that was discussed was the New Pact on Migration and Asylum that had been worked on in the CoR and approved a couple of days before this meeting. The discussion between Students, Antje Grootheer and Anna Katharina Mangold, Professor of European Law and the head of studies of EUS, was very lively. The students could in real life observe and participate in a scientific debate where the different roles that Academics and Politics play in society were played.

The debate continued in a more informal manner over food and drinks that sponsored by the student representatives of EUCS. This midsummer lecture closed the semester of EUS and EUCS and provided some input to motivate the students to have a productive examination and paper-writing season.
