Description

In the course “Europe in the Global Economy” students will study contemporary problems of European economies and societies which are linked to political and economic integration as well as the overall process of internationalization. The focus is on social risks and welfare in open economies. In the first sessions students will become acquainted to the institutional set-up of the European welfare states, learn about the different ways in which citizens are protected from social risks in European countries and will assess recent changes in economy and society. The following sessions deal with the process of European integration, in particular the development of peripheries and the promotion of local production systems. In the remaining sessions students will analyse how European integration contributed to the erosion of the social compromise. Contemporary problems such as youth unemployment will be looked into. The course is designed to teach students on the institutional diversity in which firms and markets are embedded and enable them to analyse problems related to dysfunctional arrangements.

 

Literature

Exam und literature:

Students will write a research paper (10-12 pages) on one of the topics and give a presentation in class (10-15 minutes). The literature will be made available online / via moodle.

Course description:

This seminar builds on the course Regional Economics I. It aims at enabling students to deepen their knowledge of the development of institutions in market economies, especially the institutional structures of regional economies of the Mediterranean region. In addition, students are acquainted with research practices of case studies. The course is divided into two subsections. The initial sessions of this course deal with methodological texts and engage in discussions on practices to conduct case study research. Then, the remaining sessions are dedicated to the study of examples of issues related to the fast fashion industry in southern Europe.

Description

Die Teilnahme am Kolloquium ist verpflichtend für alle Studierenden, die in der Prüfungsordnung 2021 oder 2024 studieren, die ihre Abschlussarbeit in der jeweiligen Abteilung schreiben wollen.

Inhalt:

Im Rahmen des Kolloquiums werden den Teilnehmer*innen verschiedene Themen rund um das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten nähergebracht wie bspw. Phasen einer Abschlussarbeit, Themensuche und -eingrenzung, Literaturquellen und -datenbanken, Literatursoftware, Bewertungskriterien, formale Anforderungen, Zitationsstile, Exposé-Erstellung sowie die Fallstudienmethodik. Zusätzlich gibt es an verschiedenen Terminen die Möglichkeit, Probleme und Fragen in der Gruppe untereinander zu erörtern. Ferner dient das Format dem Austausch über wissenschaftliche Fragestellungen.

Ziel:

Das Kolloquium hat zum Ziel, während des Erstellungsprozesses der Bachelorarbeiten eine begleitende Betreuung zu gewährleisten und die Qualität der wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten zu verbessern. Es bietet ein Forum für die Vorstellung der laufenden Arbeiten sowie für die Diskussion grundlegender Fragen zum wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten.
