Book Fairs as Spaces of Cultural and Economic Negotiation
Cultural Policies of Book Fairs in Spain, Mexico and Germany
This research project investigates book fairs as spaces of cultural, political, aesthetic and economic mediation. Based on the examples of Spain, Mexico and Germany, the interferences of book markets and literary fields of the mentioned countries will be mapped and interpreted by means of the institutional interface of their most important international book fairs in Madrid, Guadalajara and Frankfurt. The multi-media self-representations of German literature and culture at Spanish and Mexican fairs on the one hand and those of Spain and Mexico in Frankfurt on the other will be compared, relying on empirical data, to the perceptions of their literatures by the foreign public.
