Academic Background
Kseniia Cherniak is a research assistant and a PhD candidate at the Europa-Universität Flensburg. Her dissertation research is related to the investigation of inequalities between EU member states in access to and outcomes of fundamental principles of the European Union, such as freedom of movement.
Kseniia Cherniak studied sociology at the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Ukraine and work as a non-scientific assistant at the Chair of Political Sociology. Her master thesis was focused on the investigation of the correlation between the development of neoliberal ideology and changes in the value system of European societies. Afterwards she also studied at the master program Sociology – European Societies at the Freie Universität Berlin and wrote a master thesis on the positioning of post-soviet sociology between sociology from the Global South and the Global North. She also worked as a student assistant at the project about acculturation of refugees in Germany at the Freie Universität Berlin and at various projects related to the study of Eastern Europe at the Zentrum für Osteuropäische und internationale Studien (ZOiS).
Her research interests concern globalisation, studies of capitalism, social and academic inequalities and discourse analysis.
