Welcome to the website of the Department of Special Education in the Field of Learning (Dual Master)

Special Education in the Field of Learning focuses on the particularities and difficulties in the learning process of children, adolescents and adults. It examines the conditions for designing teaching and learning processes for people with a need for support in this regard.

An interdisciplinary approach is pursued for discussing and clarifying special education research questions. This approach incorporates theories, models, findings, and methods from related disciplines, namely psychology, educational sciences (including general didactics and subject didactics), sociology, and neurobiology. It considers currently debated international and national issues. Key themes in research and teaching include diagnostics, prevention, intervention, inclusion, and counseling. Thematic focuses in research and teaching include diagnostics, prevention, intervention, inclusion, and counselling in particular.

The staff of the department teach in the Dual Master's programme in Special Education, the first dual programme of its kind in general education studies nationwide. Prospective teachers are trained to become experts in the individual support of children and adolescents, primarily in inclusive settings.
