The department is involved in empirical educational research, childhood and youth research, gender research and adult education/training. Our team is made up of four professors and seven research assistants.
The members of the department teach the school-related courses and are responsible for the non school-related Master of Educational Sciences "Education in Europe" and the German diploma (Diplom) degree course Educational Sciences (Pädagogik) (discontinued).
The individual working areas cover the respective research focuses in detail. Research focuses on areas including issues of professionalisation, education and socialisation. Here the focus is on comparative cultural methodology and international as well as intersectional perspectives.
