Target Group:
The building academic vocabulary short course is for students with a B2 English level proficiency or higher (B2-C2) who want to expand their vocabulary for academic purposes and/or want to “close the gap” between non-native and native like English proficiency.
Content:
This is a self-study course with instructor support. This means you have access to all the materials, including answer keys, and that an instructor oversees the structure and timing of activities, as well as answers any questions throughout the semester. The first part of the course focuses on vocabulary development and the uses words from the General Service List. The second part of the course provides practice using words from the Academic Word List sublists 1-5.
Assessment:
Regular and active participation in the class. Completion of homework assignments. Post-test on the last day of course and turning in of language portfolio.
Technology:
This course uses the learning management software, moodle, and the online meetings software Webex. Further materials related to the book are available through the publisher’s website.

Target Group:
The Grammar and Punctuation for Academic Writing course is an English for Academic Purposes course for students with a B1-C1 English level proficiency who want to focus on the grammar necessary for the effective writing of academic texts.
Content:
This is an instructor led graded self-study course. This means you have access to all the materials, including answer keys, and that an instructor oversees the structure and timing of activities, as well as answers any questions throughout the semester. The course begins with a review of verb tense use in an academic context before moving on to more complex structures like showing logical links, expressing, shades of meaning, and using relative clauses. Although useful outside academia, the grammar in this course is focused solely on the academic context.
Assessment:
Regular and active participation in the class. Completion of homework assignments. Klausur to be turned in on the last day of class.

Target Group:
The English Presentations course is for students at the B1-C2 level who want to improve their oral fluency and delivery, and logical organization and language use for presentations.
Content:
This is an instructor led course focused on developing your presentation skills. Although particular attention is paid to the academic context, the skills are transferable to other contexts. The course is practice based and takes students through the steps of writing, revising, and delivery a presentation.
Assessment:
Regular and active participation in the class. Completion of homework assignments. Delivery of presentations.

The course uses authentic readings excerpted in the Reading & Writing Source Book to engage students in understanding the skills they will need for reading academically and the conventions of written academic texts.
