Target group:

The B2.1 English language level course is for students who want to expand on their previous English language knowledge at an advanced level. The course is suitable for students who have completed the B1.2 course (intermediate) or have approximately 360 classroom hours of English language lessons.

Content:

The focus of this is on advanced English language skills. Attention is paid to the four primary language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The course is rooted in an English for academic purposes pedagogy but is applicable to everyday life.

Regular and active participation is required for successful completion of the course. This includes the completion of homework in order to continue practicing and consolidating what has been learned in the classroom. 

Assessment:

Regular and active participation in the class.

Completion of homework assignments.

Exam on the last day of class.

The course consists of 30 classroom hours. Attendance is compulsory. If you wish to receive a certificate, you may not be absent for more than 6 class hours (20%). The final grade is composed of 30% class participation and 70% final exam.

Target group:
The English B2.2 semester course is designed for those interested in expanding their existing English skills. The course is suitable for participants who have completed a B2.1 course or approximately 500 hours of English instruction.

Content:
The focus of this course is on upper intermediate English skills. Attention is given to the four primary language skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The course focuses on English in an academic context, but also incorporates general language components. If you complete the lessons and engage with the language outside of class, you can reach B2 level after one semester.

Assessment:

Regular and active participation in the class.

Completion of homework assignments.

Exam on the last day of class.

Target group:

The Academic Literacy and English course is for students who have some B2 or higher level of English; approximately 600+ hours of instruction. The course is designed to improve English skills in the context of the university and higher education and aimed at undergraduate students. Emphasis is placed on academic research and writing skills. Participants will develop their academic vocabulary and academic voice in oral and written language.

Course content:

The course is taught using a project based instruction method that can be used in conjunction with your other courses. Together we will read and discuss selective readings, write a short project on a shared topic and a longer project on a topic of your choosing. Your academic English skills will improve as well as your general English abilities.

Assessment:

Regular and active participation in the course. Regular written homework culminating in portfolio of work turned in the final day of class.

Attendance is compulsory.

Target group:
English Short Stories is an English course for students at the B2.1-C2 level who want to strengthen their existing English skills, refresh skills they have, or who are planning on going abroad in the next semester.

Content:
This course is for upper intermediate and advanced English learners who have at least a passing interest in literature. The course uses short stories as an object of analysis, a starting point for discussion and/or a writing activity, and/or vocabulary building. The course focuses on reading comprehension and textual analysis skills, as well as the production of semiformal English in a discussion format.

Assessment:
Regular and active participation in the class. Completion of homework assignments. Two short presentations. Klausur turned in on the last day of the course.

The Grammar and Punctuation for Academic Writing course is an English for Academic Purposes course for students with a B1-C1 English level proficiency who want to focus on the grammar necessary for the effective writing of academic texts.

Content:
The course begins with a review of verb tense use in an academic context before moving on to more complex structures like showing logical links, expressing, shades of meaning, and using relative clauses. Although useful outside academia, the grammar in this course is focused solely on the academic context.

Assessment:

The second part of the course provides practice using words from the Academic Word List sublists 1-5.

The English Presentations course is for students at the B1-C2 level who want to improve their oral fluency and delivery, and logical organization and language use for presentations.

Content:
This is an instructor led course focused on developing your presentation skills. Although particular attention is paid to the academic context, the skills are transferable to other contexts. The course is practice based and takes students through the steps of writing, revising, and delivery a presentation.
