cleaning platforms

In recent years, the growth of platform-based cleaning services has significantly changed the paid domestic work sector. As a flexible response to the acute time-money crunch faced by many families due to the neoliberal care crisis, platforms offer cleaning of the private home at the push of a button. Accordingly, the platformisation of domestic work increasingly blurs the social and spatial boundaries between paid and non-paid reproductive labour. We will examine the associated working conditions for platform-mediated cleaners, with a particular focus on how platforms commodify domestic reproductive labour, drawing on intersectional inequalities.
