 ing the SystemPolicymakers are confronted with multifaceted challenges, in
 cluding climate change, biodiversity loss, energy security, the rise of po
 pulism, and the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing the
 se complex issues requires scientific evidence. At the same time, translat
 ing research findings into policy-relevant insights remains challenging, a
 nd many researchers perceive policymaking processes in parliaments, minist
 ries, and other public institutions as a “black box”.In this virtual l
 unch talk, Tome Sandevski (Goethe University Frankfurt) offers a practice-
 oriented introduction to the science–policy interface and to policymakin
 g processes across key public institutions. Participants will gain an over
 view of written and dialogue-oriented formats of scientific policy advice 
 that enable effective engagement with policymakers. The session will also 
 highlight how such activities can support the demonstration of research im
 pact, an increasingly important component of competitive funding applicati
